What is a Grand Challenge in the Plant Sciences?
We are asked this question a lot! But project personnel have to be agnostic on this question since GC identification and ranking is for you, the community, to decide. But here are some broad examples you could consider, if you like. You can add your own on the community wiki (link at left) or comment on others' proposed GC's!
1) What is the relationship between phenotype and genotype on the level of a whole organism?
2) How does a complex, multicellular plant grow and develop from a single cell?
3) What is the relationship between plant form and function?
4) What will be the effect of climate change on productivity and sustainability of agricultural systems? on species composition and survival in ecosystems?
5) Can food and fuel production be improved and optimized in order to provide sustainably and equitably for 9 billion people within 50 years?
