CSHL is seeking an experienced software developer to join the iPlant Collaborative project, a new NSF-funded initiative which seeks to develop an comprehensive national cyberinfrastructure which will unite researchers in every plant biology discipline—from those working at the microscopic level, such as molecular biologists, cellular biologists and geneticists, to those working on the ecosystem and planetary level—in partnership with computer scientists and engineers, information scientists, mathematicians and social scientists, in order to facilitate communication and collaboration across all of these disciplines to address questions of global importance and advance all of these fields.
Responsibilities:The applicant will interact with bioinformaticians and other members of the iPlant team to participate in the design and implementation of next generation systems for organizing, analyzing and visualizing large-scale data sets in the fields of genomics, phylogenetics, developmental biology and physiology.
Qualifications: Successful candidates will have significant experience in the design and implementation of algorithms for processing large amounts of scientific data. We require fluency in one compiled language such as C or C++, and at least one high-level numeric analysis package such as MATLAB, S-Plus or R. Proficiency in a Unix environment, and comfort with source code control systems and agile development environments are required.
