Position Summary:  

The iPlant Collaborative (iPC) is a cyberinfrastructure collaborative that is working to address grand challenges identified by the plant sciences community. It brings together plant biologists, computer and information scientists and engineers, as well as experts from other disciplines, all working in integrated teams.

We are seeking a Support Systems Analyst, Senior to work within the Core Infrastructure Team, a unit responsible for implementing and managing the cyberinfrastructure of the iPC. The Support Systems Analyst, Senior will provide staff and end-user support for desktops/laptops, our web site, and other iPlant web applications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide desktop and application support to iPlant staff and end-users using MacOS X, Windows XP/Vista, and Linux; Installation and configuration of desktop/laptop applications.
  • Recommend hardware and software applications to users; assist in hardware inventory and software license management.
  • Install, configure, and monitor Tivoli Storage Manager software for iPlant systems; create project-wide scheduling and policies for data retention; respond to disaster recovery alerts; develop system images for iPlant's desktops, laptops, and servers as appropriate.
  • Produce documentation, tutorials, and training for web application, desktop software and other services provided by iPlant.
  • Implement innovative solutions for managing iPlant's federated and heterogeneous systems and applications, located at the University of Arizona, Cold Springs Harbor, and other partner sites.
  • Work with the iPlant Integrated Solutions Team to implement changes to core services, help plan for downstream infrastructure needs, and recommend innovative technology solutions for the Grand Challenge Workshops.
  • Provide periodic reports to the team and management.
  • Upload or modify web content to iPlant's public websites.
Additional Minimum Qualifications: 
  • At least two years of experience providing customer service in a technology-related field.
  • At least two years of experience supporting MacOS X or Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must have knowledge about computer hardware and the installation of computer components.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting networking, web application, and desktop/laptop issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Must have an understanding about system and network security issues.
Preferred Qualifications 
  •  Experience writing end-user documentation.
  • Experience producing tutorials for end-users using Wink, Camtasia Studio, Adobe Captivate, or other similar recording software.
  • Experience providing live training for software and web applications to end-users.
